Well I’ve made my first set of cards for 2010 – one for my FIL’s birthday (and a few copies for my card stash!).

So cleaning up my craft space and jumped right in, so this is what I started 2010 with – crafty wise!

The start of another year -here’s hoping there’s a few more ‘highs’ and a few less ‘lows’ this time around the block!

I hope you ushered your year in however you wanted to (even if that was through closed eyelids!) and that 2010 brings all that you wish it to.

DH & I spent the night with friends – good conversation, lots of laughs, food, games on the Wii and watching the Sydney Fireworks on TV and trying to catch a glimpse of the local ones over the houses and trees.

Happy New Year to my blog readers!  I wish you love, laughter, fun, health and happiness in 2010.  May it be all that you wish it to be and more!

Dave asked me to ‘make something’ for a few people at work as a “Thank You” gift for them helping him learn a new part of the business over the past few months.  I decided to do up some custom candles as it is something I’ve been itching to try!

This turned out to be a really simple technique (I was surprised exactly how simple!) and I think I’ll be making more as they will be a great gift item for a lot of different occasions.

I just used cheap church candles – they don’t have any scent but you can use whatever type of candle you want.

This is what I came up with.

Two used Fiskars “Ink by Steph” range stamps (rock star & skull), three using SU stamps  (two Bronc Buster and one Upsy Daisy) and one using a Scrappindipity Stamp (rose).  All trussed up in clear bags with curling ribbon and tags done using the SU set Lovely Labels and some punches.

Last week I went to my local scrapbook store (LSS) A Craft Affair for a Christmas Craft Class.  The store has recently changed ownership and I thought I’d try out one of their new classes as a bit of a treat for me after a very busy month at work!

We did some cards and OTP items and I thought I’d share our finished items – it was a 4 hour class with two different teachers – one being the new owner Larn so it was also a good chance to get to know her a bit.

Three OTP’s – 3 wishes – a bauble and the bottle, it is meant to be used as a place card or add chocolate/candy in it and give it as a gift.

And a few cards, all very effective with their presentation, but quick to mass produce. (spot the fiskars punch that we used!)

You may have seen this post on the Fiskars Blog earlier this month, but if not here it is!

This is a card that is quick to mass produce but is very effective in its presentation.

The card recipe is:

Red Cardstock

White Cardstock

May Flower Squeeze Punch-Medium

Upper Crest Border Punch

Round the Bend Squeeze punch (you can also use the Large side of the Twist & Flip 2-in-1 Corner Punch)

Mini Star Brads

Cloud 9 “Christmas Is” Stamp (Peace)

Gold Ink

Step by Step:

  1. Cut your card base to size 29.7cm x 10.5cm (cut an a4 sheet of cardstock in half vertically) and score & fold in half so you have a top folding card.
  2. Round all four corners of your card base
  3. Cut a strip of white cardstock 10.5cm x 3cm
  4. Cut a strip of red cardstock 10.5cmx 6cm
  5. Punch each long side of the red cardstock with the border punch
  6. Punch out 6 May Flower shapes from red cardstock
  7. Layer 2 of the May flowers and attach a brad through the middle.  Repeat this so you end up with 3 shapes.
  8. Attach the shapes to the piece of white cardstock by pushing the brads through the cardstock at even intervals (you may need to use a paper piercer to do guide holes for the brad).  You could also attach them with a small piece of foam tape.
  9. Attach white strip with the flowers to the pre-punched red strip and attach that to the card base as shown.
  10. Stamp on your greeting.
  11. Now you’re all done – repeat the process for as many times as you think!

TIP: This design can be made up with lots of different colours, different centre brads and a different sentiments.

You can also change around your border punches if you have them. Apron Lace or Threading Water work well with this design.

Here’s a few examples of what you could do.

Thanks for looking!

This is one of the cards that I took with me to my Spotlight demonstration last week.  It was a hit :-) simple but effective.

Materials:

Fiskars Rotary Trimmer

Apron Lace Border Punch

My Funny Valentine (Scallop Heart) – Large – Overlapping and stuck together in a 4-3-2-1 combination to make the tree

May Flower – Medium (the Bling Bling Medium would also work well)

Tag You’re It – Medium (the trunk of the tree with the shaped end at the back of the tree).

Cloud 9 Alyssa’s Garden Fleur Paper

Brown Cardstock

Dark Green Cardstock

Gold Paper

Well my little (ok, not so little anymore!) brother had his birthday a few days ago – this is the card & present holder I made for him.  The backpack contained his present – in the larger pocket was lollies & chocolate and the smaller one had some cash for him :)   The template for the backpack is available on Splitcoast Stampers (SCS) I added a little extra length to the top flap (to allow for wider closure to fit what I wanted) and added the extra patterened paper to match the card.
