Today is a day for reflection, a day to acknowledge those who have fought for our county, fought to defend those in other countries, who are currently serving in our forces and to the families of those who were lost and those that are currently serving. We all know someone like this, most of us are someone like this. Living in a garrison city for most of my life, the military is part of everyday life here, we have soldiers deployed and returning on a regular basis, there are exercises constantly around us or involving our troops and they are an integral part of our community. For those that fought, for those that were lost, for those that are still serving, thank you.
The Ode of Remembrance
They shall not go old as we that are left grow old,
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
And at the going down of the sun, and in the morning,
We shall remember them.
The ode is taken from a poem by the english writer and poet Laurence Binyon called “For the Fallen”.
